Message:   Serious problem: copyright violation

From: Joe     Sent: 24 June 2003     Message 1 of 5

I have received a warning e-mail from MSN Groups informing all of the managers of this group that if we don't remove three pictures from a certain photo album within 48 hours that "Cindy and Joe (Public)" will be closed down!

I have, of course, deleted the three pictures in question.

But it was only by luck that I happened to log on to the Internet and discover that e-mail before the 48-hour deadline had passed. If it had happened next week, when Cindy and I are on vacation, the hammer may well have fallen and all of the work we've put into this group would be gone. :-(

If the person who reported these pictures as copyright violations is reading this, I would like to appeal to you to report any future copyright violations directly to myself, and not to MSN Groups. Thank you.

Joe

Bloody hell Joe, I was in a bit of a panic there.... I thought that it might have had something to do with the 3 pics I posted in "general fisting pics" and i was preparing for an apology note to U both!!
There were some other pics posted in this album which I notice have since been removed. Were these the offenders??

Phew!!!!! yours relievedly (if there is such a word)

M&T, thanks for expressing your concern. I'm still pretty shook up from such a close call.

No, it was not pictures in your album. The three pictures in question were posted in an album all by themselves about a month ago. I'm assuming that the poster was not aware that the pictures were so problematic.

Again, to anyone who owns the copyright of any pictures posted on this group, and if you want the pictures removed, please write directly to me, instead of reporting the pictures to MSN Groups. I will remove the pictures willingly, although perhaps not within 48 hours. :-(

Can you not add a trusted group member as a moderator who would also receive such a warning?

That way holiday periods/sickness etc could be catered for.

Cheers

Mike

Mike,

That's a possible "solution", but that involves other possible problems, such as increasing the vulnerability to hacker attacks. But I'll keep it in mind, especially if this kind of 48-hour warning ever happens again. (So far it's only happened twice in the 3 1/2 years that this MSN group has existed.)

Joe
