Message:
Do not left-click on the video links!
From: Joe Sent: 6 Nov. 2002 Message 1 of 8
PLEASE! If you want to view the Cindy video clips, please right-click on the link associated with the file name and select "Save Target As" and copy the file to your hard disk. Then you can use Windows Explorer to locate the file and double-click on the file name and view the video clip as often as you like, and with best quality.
Too many people are left-clicking on the links and trying to view the videos on-line! This leads to several problems, the biggest, for Cindy and me, is that we have to pay much more for the bandwidth which is metered.
For example, earlier today someone tried to view the "Cindy's First Fisting Video" on-line with Windows Media Player. This file is 47 MB. Windows Media Player, for some reason, re-accessed the file 9 times within the space of 10 seconds, and this costs Cindy and me 420 MB in bandwidth costs! (I can see this sort of thing in the web server's log file.)
The above example is only one of many. The metered bandwidth for our "Data Archive" web site for the last 48 hours is 8.4 GB, and that is totally ridiculous!
Thank you.
Joe

12 GB bandwidth charged for 3 days! This is crazy!
Access to the video clips has been closed until I figure out a way to prevent people from left-clicking on the video file links. (There's always some people who can't do as requested and spoil everything for everybody!)

Joe & Cindy,
How do I get a password in order to download Cindy's videos?
Thanks,
Robert Carter

OK, I did find a way to prevent left clicking on the video clip file links, at least for Microsoft Internet Explorer. So access to the video clips has been opened up again, at least until the bandwidth allotment runs out.
To Robert Carter, and everyone else: The username and password for the Cindy video clips can be found in the Documents section of this MSN group.

appologies
out of habit I kept left klicking
I will ensure I right klick next time.
Also can you help with a problem.
My kids use the computer and I obviously don't want them coming across adult material. I keep files on temporary and delete them later. However I have found that when I bring up windows media player it has kept the names of the downloaded clips on it's file. In other histories or files I usually right click and it offers a delete option. This does not work in media player. Can anyone explain how I get rid of the file name.
Thanks a very computer illiterate Spunky

Spunky,
> I keep files on temporary and delete them later.
I hope this doesn't mean that if you later feel like seeing the clip again that you come back and download it again. The problem for Cindy and me is that we don't want to have to subsidize more downloading than necessary.
Alternative solutions: Install some kind of security program that places some folders under password protection. (Not fool-proof, but if your kids aren't into developing hacking skills it should be good enough.) Or install some kind of removable hard disk, for example a USB 2.0 drive, and lock it in a drawer or take it with you when you turn the PC over to the kids.

For Windows Media Player version 7 try this: Click on "Media Library" over on the left. Open up the tree display for Video and be surprised at how revealing WMP's recording keeping is! All the entries here can be deleted. Click on one of them, hit Ctrl+A to select all of them, and hit Delete. Think you're safe now? Nope, click on Deleted Items - All deleted media. There they are again! Delete them again (but don't select the "delete from hard disk" option unless you want to delete the files themselves), and now the revealing entries should be gone for good.

I've become aware that this statement of mine is not true. It was based on a misunderstanding of mine as to how the web server keeps track of bandwidth. In reality the above scenario did not cost very much bandwidth at all.

Thanks Joe.
Sorry if I messed up your bandwidth.
Will try not to do so again.
Especially thanks for the info on media player.
Will try to set up a password area. Boy that might take me some time.
