hey joe, every time i try to download one of the clips i get a message that the connection with the site has been lost any chance that you could look into this for me. i would really like to see them

Is this when you single-click on the file to view it in Windows Media Player, or when you right-click on the file to copy it to your hard disk?

In my experience it works best just single-clicking and viewing the video clip on-line in Windows Media Player. With MPG's it tries to show you a bit at a time during download but this is usually more frustrating than useful. With AVI's you have to wait until it has downloaded the entire file before it plays.

In either case, after the entire file is downloaded, you can view it multiple times. Then, if you want to keep it, you can close Windows Media Player and find the file in Windows Explorer's cache folder and move it to where you want it. This is a bit complicated, but I can try to explain how to do it if you want. But first please confirm that you can download the file and play it on-line by single-clicking on it.

Other than that I don't know what I can do. I have no influence over how MSN Web Communities works - sorry.

OK, I've visited MSN's "Community Feedback" community, and this is a known problem. Apparently the problem has existed for quite some time and there are a lot of people bitching about it. On their "Support Flash" page it says the following:

"Known Issues 10/31/00

- Uploading and downloading large files via modem is dependent on your connection speed. Many large photos or files may not be passable due to your connection not being able to grab the data fast enough before timing out."

There is general consensus that MSN trying to blame users for having connections that are too slow is a really stupid cop out. Unfortunately, it's anyone's guess if or when MSN tries to fix this problem.

I suppose I could try to put the Cindy video clips on one of the "free disk space" services that exist. Does anyone have any recommendations about these services?

hey joe...would it be possible to e-mail the vids? I seem to be having the same problem. When I single click media player comes up and then it says something about the data being corrupt. If I right click and try to "save as" it times out. I'm one of the unlucky ones on a dial up still....LOL I don't want to cause you any unnecesary problems it was just an idea. Thanks.

Why not try Idrive at http://www.idrive.com , there you can upload up to 50MB, and you can share files with other idrive members. I've been using it for a while and i find good.

Glad to hear that the Cindy video clips at i-drive are working OK.

As for uploading some of the other video clips to i-drive, I'll see if I have time one of these days. I must admit that I'm assuming that MSN will fix this problem sooner or later so I see it as having to do extra work for a short-term goal.
