Let's Compare Performance
From: lynfield481 Sent: January 3, 2000 Message 1 of 8
After all the work Joe has done setting up the second site, let's let him know how the two compare. Although I am no fan of Microsoft, I do have to say that the navigation tools and speed of download are both much better at MSN. I am using NetScape 4.7, and having no problems with MSN. On the other hand, Excite has stalled badly on a number of occasions, and I have had to stop and reload. So on this particular afternoon, MSN is a much better performer.
And thanks Joe, you've done a wonderful job.

You're welcome. But it's "a labor of love" :-)
Actually, I'm surprised you're so positive towards MSN Web Communities when you use Netscape. Don't you have the problem of having to enter the file name for every pic that you download? I do, when I use Netscape.
Yours,
Joe

Hi Joe,
I also use Netscape 4.7 and I have no problems at all using MSN clubs and downloading pics, etc. Maybe you need to update yours to the latest 4.7 version?
Gina :)

I am using 4.7. Unfortunately, the Help - About screen does not provide a sub-version number.
My version of netscape.exe is 5.401 MB and is dated 09.09.99 4:55.
My specific problem with downloading pics from MSN Web Communities is that it always suggests the file name "fetch.dll".

Joe

Hi Joe:
Mine does the same, but I type in the name of the first file, and then highlight it and do a Ctrl/C to copy it before clicking on the OK button. Then when I download each photo I just paste in (Ctrl/V) the name and modify what few characters require it before saving.
I find that less of a problem than having to go back to the index for each photo. The "next" link on MSN is much faster than going back and forth page by page or using "open in new window".
regards
Pat

Hi Pat,
That's pretty smart, but not something the average user would be able to do. So until MSN or Netscape change things to avoid this problem I'll be pretty reluctant to move to MSN because of this problem.
But you're right that it's much more convenient to browse through a sequence of pics, like the Cindy photo sessions, at MSN.

Joe

how do I access the msn site?

The easiest way to access the MSN site is from our front-end web page at www.CindyAndJoe.com
You can go directly to the MSN site via this link.

Joe
