Message:
Alternative host for Cindy and Joe?
From: Joe-CindyAndJoe Sent: October 2, 1999 Message 1 of 25
I'm getting tired of all of the problems associated with having this "community" hosted by Excite.
- Poor response times, lots of "Something's Awry" and "Server too busy" messages, and sometimes impossible to get a connection.
- One person has indicated that she simply can not sign in. Also, there is very large proportion (almost 30%) who never sign in out of the total number of membership requests which have been approved, which seems to indicate that something is wrong.
- Lack of statistics about the number of members who actually visit the community each day and the last time each member visited.
So, despite the amount of work that I've put into creating this community I'd like to know if anyone has a suggestion for a better host site elsewhere?
Yours,
Joe

I'm still trying to find a better host for the "Cindy and Joe" site than Excite, and would appreciate it if someone has a suggestion.
Here's a tip: If you get a screen with "Something's awry", then click on your browser's Back button immediately. This can usually avoid your being taken out of the community.
Yours,
Joe

Joe,
The problem is not unique to this Community. The problem is mostly a high volume of traffic on Excite. I haven't got a solution to another good location, but I have a couple of time saving tips I have found out the hard way. Stepping back several contacts (on AOL, the window between "Find" and "Go") saves a great deal of time. Also, copying the message typed into this window or typing it on a word processor off-line first, before clicking on "Create" does wonders. Sometimes I forget and (just like this message that I have typed twice!) lose the message. I have to wonder why Excite runs such a flaky server, but I guess one gets what one pays for sometimes. ;-]

One of the reasons I haven't been posting here is exactly as what's been mentioned. With this community in particular EVERYTIME I've went to create a message I've had a whole bunch of errors!
One last try!
I've always loved Cindy and Joe and think they are quite a wonderful couple. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Also a warm thanks to Sybille and Stephane for sharing their photos as well. Very sexy!
I myself am very much into severe cunt stretching and even birthing but due to circumstances, I don't share my extreme pictures.
My thanks once again though!
Luv Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,
I'm curious - what is "birthing" in this context?
Hope you feel like posting more messages in the Discussion area, despite your difficulties.
Thanks,
Cindy

Hi
I was just going to question that myself. What is it?

Go to dandylion's community, its something like "extreme stretching and birthing pictures", you'll know what she means. It is a bit intense tough. By birthing, she means just that. I guess it is the most intense stretch you can feel, but because we associate it with a host of feelings other than sexual, it feels weird to fantasize about it. For myself, i do however love to push out large objects, which is kind of similar after all.

I just wrote out a long posting and this stupid Excite "something's awry" messages. Something is indeed awry, it is Excite itself!
I'll post again some other time. Right now I'm aggravated at having lost such a long entry.

Wow, pretend I wrote the entry above properly. I am a writer. I swear. No, really, I am!

Please! Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative host for the Cindy and Joe club. I am going crazy due to the lousy technical implementation of these Excite Clubs.
Also, if/when Cindy and Joe leave Excite Clubs, remember that you will be able to find us again via the URL "CindyAndJoe.com".
Thanks,
Joe
PS. This is the third time I'm trying to post this message. Something's awry, something's awry, something's awry.... Arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!

I've more-or-less decided that the Cindy and Joe club is going to be moved to MSN Communities. This will not happen any time soon though, as it will be a major job. Perhaps around the start of December, 1999.
If there are any active members here who would like to help me by being "beta testers" for the new community please send me a private message. You can help me to design the new community and help me determine if there are problems when using software other than what I use (MS IE 4). I would particularly like to have a Netscape user to check out how MSN works for you.
Thanks,
Joe
PS. Until the club moves, it's still "business as usual" here at Excite.

..just a quick note, most of the time if you post and get this 'something awry' message, the message is posted anyway, just a prob with the reloading of the actual window, ... these clubs, as yahoo are free servers they generate huge traffics and are a prob related to that, the more popular, the more logic this prob, won't change with going to another community i fear ... cu and take care xx

Well, my plan of moving "Cindy and Joe" to MSN has been put on hold.
Partly because conditions here at Excite have gotten a bit better, although they are still way too poor.
Partly because I've determined that MSN lacks some facilities that we have here at Excite, like nested photo albums and the ability to post comments on the photos.
Yours,
Joe

I am now regretting that I put off moving "Cindy and Joe" to MSN or Lycos, and as soon as I have some time available I'll get back to that project.
So if you too are fed up with all of the problems here at Excite, then please stick with us a bit longer, and then follow us to your new home.
Thanks,
Joe

I would have to suggest Yahoo! clubs. They are much quicker than excite. They seem to make a greater effort to upgrade their system more regularly. And I'd be glad to beta test for you since I surf in Navigator on an Apple G4.

I too have emailed Excite's support dept. numerous times--they probably consider me a spammer at this point. I email them every time I get an error message, in netscape I just right click and choose send page :) I'm sure that gets the message across as to how frustrating this is for everyone.
I also mentioned to them that they will end up losing their sponsors because they will lose the "member" database they claim to have.
I have noticed today is MUCH better! And I can only hope this trend continues? I hope you'll consider staying here.

Cindy and Joe
How's your new site at MSN developing?
Mike
From:
Joe-CindyAndJoe Sent: December 29, 1999 Message 19 of 25
Hi Mike,
Funny you should ask today :-)
Here is the current plan, subject to change, of course:
We hope to stick with this club here at Excite Clubs as our "primary site". Almost all activity should take place here, in particular all discussions and all posting of personal pics should be done here.
We now have a "secondary site" at MSN Web Communities. That site is partly for testing purposes, but should also be used as the place for posting video clips (up to 1 MB in size!) and for your favorite fisting and stretching pics found elsewhere on the Internet.
Cindy's stories and pics are posted both places, but other than that there should be no duplication between the two sites.
Incidentally, if you want to browse through the Cindy pics, it is easiest to do that at the MSN site because MSN allows moving directly from one pic to the next in an album.
Yours,
Joe

Upps, I forgot to mention that if you also want to download the Cindy pics, and if you use the Netscape browser, then you should NOT use the MSN site. That is because there is currently an incompatibility between MSN and Netscape that makes downloading pics very tricky.

Joe

In case you haven't noticed it, Excite has launched a new version of their Excite Clubs software, unfortunately without any official document specifying what the improvements are.
The two improvements that I've noticed so far are:
1. There are prev and next browsing links on all photos and discussion entries. This makes it easy to browse through all of the photos in an album, so my recommendation of MSN for this purpose is no longer valid.
2. The number of characters that can be in a discussion article has been increased from 2000 to 3000, which is an improvement, although it's still far from the 30000 that MSN allows.
Yours,
Joe

I'm once again wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to move the "Cindy and Joe" club elsewhere. Excite Clubs was so unreliable that it was practically unusable for a couple of weeks a month ago or so, and it is still pretty flakey, even when it is at its most reliable. And now today Excite Mail is down, which makes it impossible for me to communicate with prospective new members.
If "Cindy and Joe" is to move, then the best bet might be for me to set it up on a server of its own here in Denmark. That would avoid all the problems that are intrinsic with Excite Clubs, MSN Communities, etc., which can't cope with their own success. It would also get rid of these stupid banner ads that slow things down and irritate the hell out of me.
Does anyone know of any club-like software for a web server? I'm willing to buy a product if it isn't too expensive and can create the same kind of club platform that we have here: message board, photo albums, contact ads, etc.

Joe...
Maybe by now you have also recieved an e-mail from NetScape...there has been some serious up-grading done on NetScape, of which Excite is a part of.
This seems to have been the reason for all the past problems...you may need to update your version of NetScape...and then you will see some serious improvements.
Happy Surfing!!

For some reason, my connection to the Club is now much faster and more reliable that in recent months?

I feel that excite has a nicer performance than the msn communities. So why change, as long as there is nothing really good working?
