Kegel "exercise" products
From: Poptarty1 Sent: 16 Dec. 2004 Message 1 of 4
After a few rather delightfully intense fisting sessions of late (pictures will be posted soon/finallly got two hands!!!), I have found I have become a bit more loose than I would like to be.
I have been doing the Kegel exercises and they do work but I am never sure if I am doing them correctly and if I am "exercising" long enough.
Has anyone ever purchased or used one of the Kegel exercise devices/products? My gyno recommended one that is FDA approved but it costs a bit more than I am willing pay out of pocket without more information.
Anyone got some feedback for me?
Thanks in advance.
Anne

On Kegel devices: Even if it's FDA-approved, choosing a device should be considered an adjunct to exercise. Just like regular training of the more visible muscles at a gym, you can exercise a given muscle any number of ways.
So do you really need a Kegel device? That's entirely up to you. If you feel psychologically like it's more motivating than no device at all, then by all means spring for one. If you use your imagination, you could probably come up with your own. Like inserting a few golfballs in the morning and flexing every spare moment until you get home. Or insert something from the Nerf company which is both small enough and large enough, then squeezing that all day long. Or use nothing at all and just remember to exercise frequently.
If you want, just try varying the exercises. Try doing 100 quick contractions in a row before resting. Try holding one contraction as strongly as possible for as long as possible; if you're doing it right (ie, with all your might), your muscles should fatigue quickly, lasting between 10-20 seconds. Try just doing lots and lots of sets of 20-30 reps of moderate intensity (ref: Pavel Tsatsouline's GTG, or "grease the groove").
On being 'loose': Don't confuse 'loose' with being flexible. If you see a gymnast do the splits do you think, "Yikes, her groin muscles are really loose," or do you think, "Wow, she's got amazing flexibility"? Now, flexibility without strength, yeah, that might be considered 'loose'. But flexibility with strength, that's A Good Thing. It'll definitely minimize the chance of an injury.
Now if you really want to be 'tight' again, keep up with the Kegels but stop with fisting or any sort of penetration for at least a month. The longer you wait, the worse your flexibility will get. In other words, lots of contractions but no stretching. (Think of those bodybuilders who have no flexibility.) This isn't an approach I'd recommend, but that ought to do it for you.
Disclaimer: This is just my $0.02, use common sense where applicable, yahda yahda yahda.

I went ahead and bought the device. I was mostly not sure that I was doing the exercises properly so with this device it is supposed to isolate the muscles properly to ensure I am working the right area.
I'll post more about it when it arrives and I've worked with it a bit.
Thanks for you reply.

Ordered a new toy on Christmas, eh? That's pretty cool. :-)
I would also recommend devouring books relating to Kegel exercises. I went and browsed a few of my fave sites and can tell you this:
- www.blowfish.com - There didn't seem to be anything specific to Kegels there, although this site remains a personal favourite. I can say from personal experience that their service is very quick and very discreet. Still, you might find another book or video there which catches your interest. One such book might be A Hand in the Bush: The Fine Art of Vaginal Fisting (by Deborah Addington), which is a great book for the personal library.
- www.goodvibes.com - Again, nothing specific to Kegels (that I could find), but has a decent selection, nonetheless. I've been to the store in San Francisco, back when I lived in the area.
- www.amazon.com - The G Spot (by Ladas, Perry and Whipple) is a great choice for one's personal library (and a damn good price, from what I see there), but some of the current reviews indicate that the info is now a bit dated, even though at the time it was pretty much on the bleeding edge. If you do a search on 'Kegels' you'll find quite a few books exist on the subject. Super Sexual Orgasm (by Dr. Barbara Keesling) has some interesting exercises (not to mention an interesting subject) as well as being probably the only book that I know of which discusses the cul-de-sac in any detail. The current price is quite a bit better than I remember paying for it some years ago, too.
Although this thread is primarily about Kegels, the books I mention above should be required reading for every man interested in being intimately involved with women.
I'm sure others here will have a few personal faves to recommend as well.
