Message:   Kegel device?

From: Robert_12228     Sent: 21 June 2001     Message 1 of 4

Hi all!!
First we would like to thank all of you again for your compliments and well wishes for the baby. She has had it since we last posted and it was a healthy little girl!!
We actually have a question about a device we ran across in a catalog recently to help with kegel exercises. I have scanned the ad and it is attached here any info about this thing would be a big help.
We hope to have more pics soon, happy stretching!

Hi, I clicked on the image you attached and it would not show.

Dr. Kegel invented a dildo device with a manometer to show pressure on it and made them in his basement. He sold these dildos with a hose and pressure meter "at cost" to his patients (and after his death, his wife also made them for a few years). This was a service that he gave to try to help his patients.

Possibly what you found was a take off on Kegel's invention to show how much pressure you can create by contracting the vaginal opening muscles?

In his published studies he would list how his patients improved their ability over time to show steady increasing pressure readings on their manometers. He was a great believer in contracting the opening muscles onto something, and often recommended fingers or a dildo in the vagina to contract onto for better progress. He made his patients keep a record of their daily pressure readings taken from the meter (or manometer) on his device. Contracting for Kegels can be done without a dildo, but many doctors today seem to forget that Dr. Kegel proved that progress was faster when the patient contracts "onto" something.

Of course the manometer pressure readings are nice to record progress, but reading a pressure meter is not really necessary to make progress. Fingers are good for feeling how tight you can contract onto. Dildos are good to contract onto. Even with a fist inside, you can contract onto the wrist.

Hi R&J,

as a female who's had a baby, and is currently into stretching, i agree with all that zappaz1 had to say. i will add to that a recommendation for the kegelmaster2000 or something similar.

i had been doing kegel excercises for years before the birth of my child with no devices, therefore no resistance. i can say that this did help to keep the overall tone of the muscles, and allowed for a fairly quick delivery despite having had an epidural (heck, the doctors were even impressed with my muscle control).

after the birth of my child i wanted to get that tone back, and continued with the excercises, but still using no resistance devices. few years down the line i decided to try one of the 'eggs' which are usually stone or acrylic eggs shapes that you can contract the muscles onto and try to move up and down and around. these are good for developing fine control (like trying to move the muscles from side to side or independantly as opposed to just open-shut, or isolating the three layers of muscles and going for the 'squeeze-box effect')

after broadening my horizons to include stretching fun, i did some research into how i could _really_ get those muscles toned, and came across several devices on the web for resistance exercise. i choose the kegelmaster2k because the concept seemed fairly sound. it's a dildo sized device that opens and closes and provides resistance using springs. you can adjust the number of and placement of the springs to provide just the amount of resistance you want. you can even order a special set of stronger springs if you surpass the ones it comes with (i personally couldn't imagine that)

i have personally found it to produce some amazing results in a relatively short amount of time. it seems to help with overall tone, bladder control (since that is related to the same muscle groups) and amount of stretch possible. as, i think zappaz1 said in some post in the past, stretching isn't a property of 'looseness' it comes from having more tone. more tone, more control, more stretch. i have personally found this to be true. my partner and i live across the country from eachother and therefore rarely have the opportunity for play. after starting to use the kegelmaster on a medium basis (maybe twice a week for 2 months), we went from a max capacity of one hand (10" around at the widest point, for just a few minutes, until i couldn't handle it) to one and a half (12" around at the widest point, for an extended period of time) on our next visit (no stretch play in between), and i am a small female (4'8").

that says something to me about the effectiveness of kegels _with_ resistance. oh yeah, and it fixed a bladder control problem i didn't even know i had: for my entire life (until i was 28) i've had 'the world's smallest bladder', had to pee constantly. after two weeks using the kegelmaster, i can actually wait to pee like a normal person! (talk about cool, no more stopping at gas stations on an hour car trip).

wow, this turned out to be a long post. to sum up, i guess i shouldn't necessarily recommend a particular product. there are a few different resistance kegel excersizers out there, check em out.

just my opinion -- selene_celine
